When I switched from my Sidekick to my iPhone the one thing I really missed was always having IM. I’m a huge instant message junkie. I’m pretty socially awkward so it was always much easier for friends to get a hold of me on IM to make plans, or say hi or whatever. When i’d get bored at a show i’d sign in and have a conversation or two.. whatever. But when I bought the first iPhone… no IM app. Later on they introduced the app store and there were finally IM apps but, no background tasks or push notification. So unless I had my phone on and the app open I wouldn’t be notified when I got a new message. It took me pretty long to get used to not having IM when I wasn’t around a computer and I realize how pathetic that is, but it’s the same as all you blackberry people and your BBM’s. IMing is less formal than texting and it’s awesome. Anyway FINALLY today 2 IM apps with Apple’s new push notification support launched, so I’m stoked. Congratulations Apple, you finally caught up with the T-Mobile sidekick circa 2006.
