Avail - South Bound 95.

When did this become a music blog? I guess I’m feeling nostalgic with all the talk of the Murder City Devils shows over the last few days which I declined to attend. My reasoning? I turn 29 in a week, that’s 15 years of going to shows and they just don’t have the magic that they used to. Seeing a Murder City Devils reunion at the Fonda can never live up to the memories of following them from the PCH club, to Chain Reaction, to the Che Cafe, or whatever So Cal all ages hole in the wall they were playing. The other band we used to follow from San Diego to Santa Barbara if we had to whenever they came through? AVAIL. Melodic Hardcore? I guess you could call them. The only punk band I’ve ever seen that had their own cheerleader. This video shows that in 2007 they could still whip up an entire crowd by opening with South Bound 95.

edit: Oh yeah, I met my first girlfriend online in AOL’s “Punk Chat” in 1997 when I asked if anyone had been to the AVAIL show the night before. We had to tell our friends we met at a Fourth of July party because none of our friends even had the internet, let alone would understand If i told them I met a girl in a chat room.
